Carpe Diem Orchard was established in 1979 by Henry Boer and John Juffermans. The soil is a rich sandy loam conducive to growing good crops. The orchard contains 4,000 apple trees featuring 26 varieties of apples. We also grow pears, plums, raspberries, red and black currants, gooseberries, rhubarb, asparagus, garden vegetables such as lettuce and carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, squash and pumpkins. We make homemade jams, pies and fresh squeezed cider. We sell other products such as Empire Cheese, Dickey Dee Honey and Wellseley Apple Butter. During the Christmas season, we sell Balsam and Fraser Fir trees.
We have a retail store open on the property six days a week (closed Sundays) from August until February. We attend the Innisfil and Barrie Farmers’ markets weekly. We are in our fifth season with the Innisfil Farmers' Market and we have been attending the Barrie Market for 31 years.
We love to grow good crops and we farm because we enjoy our work. Our farm property has recently been annexed by the City of Barrie and hopefully this will not change what we hold dear.
